FAQs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions. Of course, if your questions are not answered on this website, please contact us!

When Nancy Mason, a wealthy woman, opened her home to be used by the active and retired Methodist Deaconesses that operated the local hospital, the house became known as “The Deaconess Home”. But when these compassionate women began using their new home to care for orphaned and abandoned children, the community began informally referring to the house as “a baby fold”. This name referenced the Biblical allegory of Jesus as the Good Shepherd who protected and cared for his flock in a sheep fold. The Baby Fold became the official name of the agency in 1941.

The Baby Fold serves over 1,200 children and families in 28 counties. Since every program has a different radius of service, check out a specific program’s page on this website for more information about its radius of service.
